Finishing Materials for the Baranovich Method

The Baranovich method is a common approach for industrialized exterior cladding. BG Bond offers a range of high-quality materials for systems built with this method—including specialized sealants, adhesives for stone and marble, and joint fillers.

Before spreading out and laying the stones in the mould, they should be cleaned of dust, dirt, oil and any foreign substance. If washed in water, wait for the stone to fully dry before applying the system.

To anchor the hooks use 40BG PU, a single component polyurthane mastic supplied in the form  of a ready to use 600 ml. sausage. Completely and properly mmerse the bent end of the hooks in the mastic and mount them in the clean holes on the stone.

Use BD grout plaster for filling wide seams, supplied in a 25 kg. bag. Thoroughly clean from the  inside of the seam and the front and sides of the stone - concrete residues, loose bits, oils, grease and anything else liable to impair adhesion. To prepare the mixture for a 25 kg. bag, pour 5 l. of clean water into a suitable clean vessel. Slowly add the entire contents of the bag and stir the mixture for 5 minutes using an electric stirrer with a special spiral arm for bonding mixes until a lump-free uniform mixture is obtained. Following the initial stirring operation, wait about 3 min. and stir again for 2 min.

Before applying the material, moisten the surface of the seams with a wet sponge and fill the entire seam using a grout gun, grouting trowel, or some other suitable tool. Grout residues should be cleaned off the surface while the material is still fresh. Final clean-up shall be carried out after drying for about an hour.

For horizontal and vertical sealing use BG 201 - a single component acrylic mastic supplied ready for use in a 25 kg. pail. Spread the material over the gap between the stones using a smooth trowel or any other suitable tool, then level the surface and allow to dry.

Use BG Flexseal 160 - a flexible single component polymeric cementitious sealant supplied in a 25 kg. bag. To prepare the mixture, pour 6-7 l. of clean water into a clean vessel and slowly add the entire contents of the bag. Stir the mixture for 5 minutes using an electric stirrer with a special spiral arm for bonding mixes until a lump-free uniform mixture is obtained. Following the initial stirring operation, wait about 3 min. and stir again for 2 min. Before application, allow the materials to dry completely.

The material shall be applied by brushing or spraying on to the base. Use white and grey material. Spray the first layer on in a quantity of around 1.5 kg./cu.m. to a thickness of at least 1 mm., but no more than 1.2 mm. Allow the first layer to dry for 3 - 12 hours before proceeding with the second layer. Spray the second layer on in a quantity of around 1.5 kg./cu.m. to a thickness of at least 1 mm., but no more than 1.2 mm. The entire surface should be fully covered, with no puddles.

Use BG 2121 C2TES2 - an improved high flexibility cementitious adhesive, supplied in a 25 kg. bag. Attachment shall be carried out at least 28 days following completion of the casting of the concrete in the moulds. Take care for the base to be level, dry and clear of dust, oils, loose bits, paint, cement water and the like. If necessary, concrete is to be renewed using BG Repaircrete 305, followed by sealing with BG Flexseal 162. To prepare the mixture, pour 5-6 l. of clean water into a clean vessel and slowly add the entire contents of the bag. Stir the mixture for 5 minutes using an electric stirrer with a special spiral arm for bonding mixes until a lump-free uniform mixture is obtained. Following the initial stirring operation, wait about 3 min. and stir again for 2 min. Up to 2% of water may be added to attain the desired workability.

Spread over and press on to the base a thin layer of adhesive using the smooth side of the trowel. Spread on an extra quantity to the required thickness and immediately comb the adhesive with the toothed side of the trowel, in one direction only and at an angle of 60° to the base. The trowel tooth size shall be determined in accordance with the tile dimensions. Spread the back of the tile with a thin, compressed layer of adhesive (1 - 3 mm. thick), using the smooth side of the trowel, and put the tile into position while pressing and joggling it on to the fresh layer of adhesive by the “wet on wet” method. Affix tightly using a rubber mallet or special vibrator. The width of the seams shall be determined in accordance with the relevant Standard requirements, and the adhesive layer thickness on the cladding shall be 5 - 10 mm.

Use BG Super Hybrid - a white or transparent silicon, supplied in a 280 ml. cartridge. Cut open the end of the cartridge and screw the nozzle on. Cut the tip of the nozzle at a 45° angle and insert the cartridge into the special cartridge pistol. Proceed to apply the material in a full and continuous layer over the bore.

The materials required here are PK1 primer supplied in 1 litre cans and BG PU40, a separating medium supplied in a 600 cc. sleeve. The degree of expansion shall comply with the requirements of SI 1555 Part 2 and the designer’s directions. Take care that the base on which the material is to be applied is flat and dry, and clear of dust, oils, loose bits etc. Greases are to be cleaned off with the usual industrial solvents such as standard mineral turpentine.
First brush on PK1 primer and allow to dry for an hour or two. On the back of the seam lay a polyethylene foam backup profile and fill with single component polyurethane mastic for seams in the range of 12 -  25 mm.

  • Before using any of the products listed in this specification, the technical sheet for the product should be consulted and adhered to.
  • A task kick off meeting is to be held before application.
  • The material is not to be applied if rain is forecast in the 72 hours before and following the application.
  • Work shall be performed to the requirements of the relevant Israeli Standard.
  • The sealant on the back of the stone does not prevent the ingress of water into the building.
  • It is mandatory to allow each layer to dry before proceeding with the next layer. The layer must be hard and dry through its entire thickness, not just its external surface, since covering a half fresh layer with a new layer above it will prevent the material from setting and impair the system.
  • On completion of the work testing is to be performed as required under the relevant Standards and by means of a certified laboratory.
  • Care is to be taken that the adhesive layer does not interfere with the application of the grout or the flexible mastic.
  • Water/polymer is not to be added to the mixture after it dries, and a dried mixture is not to be used.
  • On completion of the work, take care to wash hands and tools under running water.
  • Skin and eyes are to be protected, avoiding direct contact with materials. In the event of contact, wash the area immediately under running water.
  • The materials are inedible and should be kept out of the reach of children.
